Pornography

"Pornography impairs one’s ability to enjoy a normal emotional, romantic, and spiritual relationship with a person of the opposite sex. It erodes the moral barriers that stand against inappropriate, abnormal, or illegal behavior. As conscience is desensitized, patrons of pornography are led to act out what they have witnessed, regardless of its effects on their life and the lives of others."
-ElderDallin H. Oaks, April 2013 General Conference

"Don’t accommodate any degree of temptation. Prevent sin and avoid having to deal with its inevitable destruction. So, turn it off! Look away! Avoid it at all costs. Direct your thoughts in wholesome paths."
-Elder Dallin H. Oaks, April 2013 General Conference

"The priesthood holds consummate power. It can protect you from the plague of pornography-and it is a plague- if you are succumbing to its influence. If one is obedient, the priesthood can show how to break a habit and even erase an addiction. Holders of the priesthood can have that authority and should employ it to combat evil influences.
-Elder Boyd K. Packer, "Cleansing the Inner Vessel", October 2010 General Conference

"My beloved friends, under no circumstances allow yourselves to become trapped in the viewing of pornography, one of the most effective of Satan’s enticements. And if you have allowed yourself to become involved in this behavior, cease now. Seek the help you need to overcome and to change the direction of your life. Take the steps necessary to get back on the strait and narrow, and then stay there.”
-President Thomas S. Monson,"Until We Meet Again", April 2009 General Conference

“With this priesthood comes a great obligation to be worthy of it. We cannot indulge in unclean thoughts. We must not partake of pornography. We must never be guilty of abuse of any kind. We must rise up above such things. “Rise up, O men of God!” and put these things behind you, and the Lord will be your guide and stay…The computer is a wonderful instrument when it is properly used. But when it is used to deal with pornography or so-called chat rooms or for any other purpose that leads to evil practices or evil thoughts, then there must be self-discipline enough to turn it off.”
-President Gordon B, Hinckley, "Rise Up, O Men of God", Oct. 2006 General Conference

"Remember that those young wives said their husbands’ infidelity began with an attraction to pornography, but immoral activity is not just a man’s problem, and husbands aren’t the only ones offending. The compromise available at the click of a mouse—including what can happen in a chat room’s virtual encounter—is no respecter of persons, male or female, young or old, married or single."
- Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "Place No More for the Enemy of My Soul", April 2010 General Conference

"Pornographic or erotic stories and pictures are worse than filthy or polluted food. The body has defenses to rid itself of unwholesome food. With a few fatal exceptions, bad food will only make you sick but do no permanent harm. In contrast, a person who feasts upon filthy stories or pornographic or erotic pictures and literature records them in this marvelous retrieval system we call a brain. The brain won’t vomit back filth. Once recorded, it will always remain subject to recall, flashing its perverted images across your mind and drawing you away from the wholesome things in life… "
-Elder Dallin H. Oaks, "Pornography", April 2005 General Conference

"Whatever you read, listen to, or watch makes an impression on you. Pornography is especially dangerous and addictive".
-President Thomas S. Monson, "General Conference is for You", New Era, May 2010)

"Pornography is a plague that is detrimental not only to a person’s moral standing with God, but it can also destroy marriages and families and has an adverse impact on society. Internet addiction and pornography are both harming marriages".
-Elder Quentin L. Cook, 'What E'er Thou Art, Act Well Thou Part", Mar. 2012

"We cannot minimize the seriousness of pornography no matter what shape, form, or dosage it comes in"
-Elder Dallin H. Oaks, "Pornography", April 2005 General Conference

My Thoughts:
When I first started this project, I didn't understand why there would be a need for me to find quotes on pornography. I assumed that because I didn't struggle with it, I wouldn't need to know how to get away from it. I discovered quickly that the problems of pornography affect everyone, whether they are aware of it or not. I really appreciated the comment made my Pres.  Boyd K. Packer, that even as we dress can be someone else's pornography; what a strong, yet poignant statement. I am recognizing the subtle ways Satan sneaks pornography into our daily lives. Whether it be through the television, advertisements, or even the lyrics of a song, I am more aware and therefore can not allow it in my home.
